Carlos Alcaraz won Wimbledon for the second year in a row in a repeat final against Novak Djokovic.
He won in straight sets and bar a blip in the third set, when Djokovic saved three match points, he was in control throughout the three sets.
The final was a repeat of the 2023 final but was a more one-sided affair and brought up Alcaraz’s fifth grand slam.
Although Djokovic will be initially disappointed in the result considering he has an operation just before the tournament it was a fantastic achievement to get to the final and as always, he was very gracious in defeat.
Britain’s Andy Murray sadly had to pull out, in what would have been his last Wimbledon, and Rafael Nadal was not fit enough to take part but hopes to play in the Olympics.
In the Ladies final Czech Barbora Krejcikova defeated the seventh seeded Italian Jasmine Paolini in three sets.
What was remarkable was that Krejcikova had been injured much of the year and had won only three matches in the five months preceding the tournament. By winning Wimbledon she won seven in just two weeks.
It has been a tough month or so for Paolini as the likeable Italian also lost the French Open final but I am sure her first Grand Slam is not too far away.
The next and final grand slam of the year is the US Open which starts at the end of August.
